A stock route, also known as travelling stock route (TSR), is an authorised thoroughfare for the walking of domestic livestock such as sheep or cattle from one location to another in Australia. The stock routes across the country are colloquially known as The Long Paddock or Long Paddock. Construction for the Barkly Stock Route Upgrading Project is expected to start in late 2018 and be completed by early 2019, weather permitting. The Australian Government has committed up to $10 million to the project, with the Northern Territory Government committing a further $2.5 million.
